The Italian Football
Federation (FIGC) reported this Thursday in an official statement that the
president, Gabriele Gravina, has decided to extend until August 2 the deadline
to end the 2019-2020 season of Series A.
The date so far has been June 30th.
"The will of President Gravina is to adopt in the next
few hours, according to all federal components, a measure to postpone until
August 2 the term to conclude the 2019-2020 sports season," reads the FIGC
note.
"This measure will be taken in compliance with the
recommendations received by FIFA and UEFA, and pending negotiations between
the leagues and the Soccer Association on the definition of the extension of
contracts that expire on June 30," he added.
Series A has been suspended since March 9 due
to the coronavirus emergency, with
Juventus as the leader with a point advantage over Lazio, second.
"The world of football
is working without pause in a responsible way to find concrete solutions to the
crisis generated by COVID-19,
including those necessary and essential to defend the 2020-2021
competitions," says Gravina.
"This is also why the world of football deserves
respect, instead of being used to create controversy without reason," he
concludes.
